HEADLINE:
Short update today :) - quiet weather = a bit of a break!
.
High pressure will move into the region tonight and will last into Tuesday - this means mostly dry weather for Monday and Tuesday - there will still be a little bit of drizzle and fog tonight (Sunday night).  Watch for a few slick spots on bridges if the temperature drops lower than expected (for Monday morning).
.
A weak disturbance will move through our region on Tuesday night into Wednesday - this may bring some light rain or drizzle.  Can't rule out some light snow mixed with the rain - this does not look like a major precipitation event.  Light amounts.
.
Otherwise - colder air will move in on Wednesday and Thursday - lasting into the weekend.  A fairly calm week ahead of us.
.

We have a TON of new weather maps on the Weather Observatory web-site - these include temperatures, wind speed, dew points, heat index, barometric pressure, predicted rainfall, climate forecast, medium and long range maps, forecasts and more!  Click here

Date Range: February 5th-15th
Event: Semi-active period of weather - several shots at colder weather will be possible.  A couple of precipitation events.
Severe Risk:

Frozen Precipitation Risk: Possibly some light events - see short range forecast
Details: Potential for some significant swings in the temperature pattern.
Confidence in my forecast:  Medium
.
.
. .
.
Remember that as a general policy, in the long range outlook, I will NOT mention severe thunderstorms more than 72 hours in advance.  I will mention thunderstorm risks and I will give as many details as possible.  The word severe will be reserved for the short range forecast.

-----------------------------
.
I am adding an extended Winter STORM outlook...
.

What are the chances for a winter STORM event (see definition below - this DOES NOT include chances for light winter precipitation - this is for winter STORMS) over southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, northeast Arkansas, or northwest Tennessee?
.
Winter STORM would be the potential for snow accumulating to 2" or more - icy travel conditions with enough sleet or freezing rain to cause advisories and/or winter storm watches/warnings to be issued by the National Weather Service.

.
Keep in mind that the percentages DO NOT mean that is what will actually fall from the sky.  It is the potential of a winter storm developing and impacting our region.  The ACTUAL forecast snowfall or ice totals are only issued in the SHORT range discussion (top of the blog page).
.
Monday - 0%
Tuesday - 0%
Wednesday - less than 5%
Thursday - 0%
Friday - 0%
Saturday - 0%
Sunday - 0%
.
1. The weather will be mostly quiet during the week ahead into next weekend.  Some light/weak disturbances may move through the flow as colder air arrives towards the middle of this week - might be some light rain or snow mix on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
.
The next storm system to watch will likely be next week - perhaps around Tuesday or Wednesday.  Plenty of time to monitor that system - right now it appears like rain (for around the 14th or so).
.
Otherwise - the week ahead will mostly bring above normal temperatures early and then perhaps more normal temperatures middle and end of the week into the weekend (might feel cold after all of our mild weather).
.
No major snowstorms during the next seven days and no major severe weather outbreaks during the next seven days!  Enjoy the quiet weather.
.
Beyond the seven day period it appears we remain in the swing pattern with intrusions of cold air mixed in with much above normal temperature days.  Several storms to monitor as we push into week 3 and 4 of February - appears we have 3-5 systems to watch.

.
Now is a GREAT time to buy a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio.  Better to have one before storms strike than to be without one during an event.  I recommend the Midland Model 300 NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio - that is what I use here at my house!
