This forecast analysis covers far southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee - for your local town/area - click here
.
HEADLINE:
Rain rain rain - lots of rain in our region today.  Rainfall totals have generally been in the 1-2" range across our central and southern counties -  a bit less over the far northern counties.
.
Temperatures have been falling this afternoon and are now quite chilly over some of our counties.  Temperatures as of 2 pm Thursday ranged from around 55 over west Tennessee to the upper 30s over northern parts of southern Illinois and southeast Missouri.
.
There have been some reports of flooding this afternoon - mainly low lying area - ditches and a few creeks.  Avoid flooded roadways.  Turn around don't drown!  That is the motto of the National Weather Service and we should all remember it by now.
.
Couple of satellite photos and morning radar - shows you the extent of the rain and clouds.
.
This radar image was from earlier on Thursday morning - lots of rain in the region - some reports of thunder, as well
.

.
Friday and Saturday (daytime hours) will be dry - rain returns by Sunday afternoon and Sunday night (pushed it back a little bit).  Right now rainfall totals from the second round of precipitation will likely be in the 0.40-0.80" range with pockets of heavier totals likely.  Right now the GFS model is spitting out 0.80-1.50" of rain for parts of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and western Kentucky - into southwest Indiana, as well.  We will tweak the rainfall totals forecast as we move forward.
.
Temperatures will be a bit cooler on Friday but should rebound a bit by Saturday and Sunday.
.
Speaking of temperatures - let's roll through the upcoming weekend and into early next week - these are the high temperature maps (check out the extended forecast below - lots of red on the map - that means above normal temperatures)

Remember that as a general policy, in the long range outlook, I will NOT mention severe thunderstorms more than 72 hours in advance.  I will mention thunderstorm risks and I will give as many details as possible.  The word severe will be reserved for the short range forecast.

.
1.  Check out the six to ten and eight to fourteen day temperature maps!  Lot of red on these maps - that means above normal temperatures.  The last graphic is the monthly outlook.  Precipitation will likely be near normal to above normal over the next 2 weeks.

Now is a GREAT time to buy a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio.  Better to have one before storms strike than to be without one during an event.  I recommend the Midland Model 300 NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio - that is what I use here at my house!
