Well - we have almost made it through May! Normally a busy time for forecasters and severe weather spotters. Thankfully we have only had a couple of events during the past month. Granted - those events were on the higher end of the scales..
There were 150 tornado reports over the last 48 hours. That would be from Wednesday into Thursday night. Quite amazing. Those are preliminary numbers and they could be lowered a bit if duplicate reports are found. Either way - impressive outbreak. .
Unfortunately, more than 15 people were killed in the storm. There were several injuries in our region but no deaths - which we are thankful for..
There were over 1500 reports of tornadoes, wind, and hail - combined. One of the tornadoes in our region was over 1 mile wide - that was the southeast Missouri tornado..
Had the storms not become a squall line then we would have witnessed much higher tornado numbers in southern Illinois and western Kentucky. The National Weather Service is still out and about doing storm surveys - there were several tornadoes, we believe, in southern Indiana, southern Illinois, western Tennessee, southeast Missouri, northeast Arkansas, and western Kentucky and we may know more in the coming days - ratings and other..
Thank you for the storm reports - if you have damage or know of damage then let me know - be as specific as possible - street names - type of damage - extent of damage - other.

We will have a few shower and thunderstorm chances over the coming 24 hours. Also much warmer temperatures! .
Not a bad holiday weekend ahead - it will be warm on Sunday and Monday - I can't rule out a few scattered thunderstorms on Monday - if out and about you should just check radar a few times. .
Always be careful on area lakes in the event of lightning - but get out and enjoy the holiday weekend!!!! This page is best viewed with Mozilla Firefox. There could be issues with spacing on Internet Explorer
