May 20, 2011: Few storms today - then better chance tonight/Saturday

Friday, May 20, 2011
.
A period of heavy showers and thunderstorms will likely occur on Saturday.  Can't rule out some severe storms, as well.  Remember that by definition a severe thunderstorm is a storm that produces quarter size hail (or larger) and winds of 58 mph or greater.
.
Another organized outbreak of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms will likely occur on Tuesday into Wednesday from Kansas into Texas and then eastward into our region.  This will need to be monitored.
.
The front may become stationary over the Ohio Valley - if this happens then heavy rains will be an issue.

1. I continue to watch for a more organized severe weather event towards the Tuesday into Wednesday time frame - as the main storm system pulls out of the central United States.  I will monitor and update accordingly.
.
Although the next few days will bring above normal temperatures - I do see another cool down moving into the area later next week with more below normal temperatures!  The roller-coaster pattern will continue.
.
Let's take a look at the extended forecast for precipitation - will it be above or below normal during the next few weeks?  Well, according to these maps - above normal rainfall.  This goes along with my thinking that we would have a more active pattern from this weekend into the next few weeks.
.
This map isn't telling us how MUCH it will rain - it is simply telling us the probability of precipitation totals being above or below normal during the time frame listed on the graphic.  Bottom line - appears this coming weekend into the first part of June may bring more wet weather.
