May 26, 2011: Calm after the storm - short update

Thursday, May 26, 2011
.
Short version today because we have been so busy with the severe weather event.
.
Thank you everyone for your storm reports.  Continue to send them if you have them - we appreciate later reports, as well.

.
Large outbreak of severe storms caused quite a bit of damage in the area.  Several tornadoes struck southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and western Tennessee.  Other areas, as well.  The National Weather Service will be out conducting surveys today.
.
We believe we had a tornado here in Massac County - some damage to a farm.
.
Over 75 tornadoes were reported on the Storm Prediction Center's web-page.  It will take some time to sort through the reports.
.
It could have been worse.  Wind fields are very impressive.  Although some strong tornadoes did occur - thankfully most cities and larger towns were spared the most intense damage.
.
Here are the reports from the Storm Prediction Center - more will be added to this list as the storm survey teams get out and about.
