No new information early this afternoon on weekend event - very low confidence in how this unfolds. Difficult forecast. Appears to me that it will start as snow and then change to snow and sleet over to rain. Could be a brief period of freezing rain.
There is a lot of uncertainty in timing and precipitation amounts. Stay tuned
More later this evening

9 AM Update
Morning lows across the region were in the single digits and lower teens. Thankfully there isn't much wind to go with the cold this morning.
A few snowflakes a floating in the air here at my place with quite a few clouds. Snow flurries will be possible today. No accumulation is forecast.
Extremely difficult forecast in the coming days. Saturday night will see a slight chance for a few flakes - esp northwest part of area. But - the real chances for precipitation arrive on Sunday into Tuesday. I expect it will begin as snow and sleet and then transition to freezing rain and perhaps all rain.
There are major questions on storm track and intensity. It is still too soon to know the impact of this next storm system. I will update as I begin to fine tune the forecast.

Forecast:
Thursday - Partly sunny and continued cold. High in the middle 20s.
Thursday Night - Clear and cold. Low temperatures around 15 degres.
Friday - Partly sunny. High temperature around 32 degrees.
Friday Night - Some clouds. Cold. Low temperature around 25 degrees.
Saturday - Increasing clouds. Slight chance of light snow very late in the day - more likely Saturday night. Will keep chances very low for now until I get a little more confidence in how this system is going to unfold. Stay tuned. High temperature around 38 degrees.
A mixture of precipitation will be possible Sunday into Tuesday - some questions on how warm it becomes - whether it changes to just plain rain or stays all frozen. Right now it appears at least some chance for a mix changing to rain then back to frozen precipitation. Complicated forecast for this time period. Stay tuned for updates.

Possible January thaw later next week? Wild temperature swings possible. Still plenty of cold weather to go this winter! But - some hints of a moderation in this pattern are starting to show up in the charts.
Basically that would mean that we may start to see some milder or above normal temperature days -compared with the pattern we have been in - which has been nothing but cold.
