HEADLINES: I wish I had better news for everyone. But - I don't. The drought is going to continue to intensify this week with very little chance for significant rainfall. Temperatures through the week will be in the 90s.
Gusty winds will continue on Tuesday - humidity levels will be fairly low. Local officials are asking people to avoid burning brush.
Winds on Tuesday will be in the 10-20 mph range with some gusts above 20 mph. If you are going to be out boating then keep this in mind.
UV levels will also be high this week.
A front will approach the region on Friday - this could spark a few showers and storms. The chance, at least at this time, is low. I will update the forecast through the week.
The best hope we have for this drought to be broken is likely going to be a tropical system to come up out of the Gulf of Mexico. This would provide beneficial rains.
Here are the high temperature maps for the upcoming week
Drought map above - a LARGE chunk of the United States is experiencing drought conditions. What a difference a year makes.
Here are some of the river stage forecasts for this week - Paducah first and Metropolis second
The above image tells the story for this upcoming week - I did include a chance (in my forecast) for a few storms on Friday. We will see how that goes. I will update through the week if need be.

Remember that as a general policy, in the long range outlook, I try not to mention severe thunderstorms more than 72 hours in advance (unless the signal is so overwhelmingly convincing that it warrants a mention). I will mention thunderstorm risks and I will give as many details as possible. Also remember you can view the long range severe weather outlooks by visiting the Storm Prediction Center's web-site - click here

Now is a GREAT
time to buy a NOAA All Hazards
Weather Radio. Better to have one
before storms
strike than to be without one
during an event. I recommend the
Midland Model 300 NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio - that is what I use here at my house!
