Cold air is here and should stick around into the weekend.  We will see some moderation over the coming days (instead of teens we will see some twenties during the overnight period)

There will be a small chance for freezing drizzle on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.  This would mainly be over our southwest counties - that would be southeast MO, far western KY, and NW Tennessee.  Keep in mind that any freezing drizzle could cause some problems.

It appears that a mixture of wintry precipitation will develop on Thursday night and Friday morning.  Right now it looks like snow for our northern counties (light) and perhaps freezing rain, sleet, and snow over the rest of the area.

For my personal thoughts on all of the above please visit the Facebook page.  I am posting more frequently there with graphics and information.

This forecast analysis covers far southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, southwest Indiana, western  Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee

HEADLINES:   Cold weather continues across our region.  A few snow flurries were reported on Tuesday - mainly over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois/southwest Indiana.

It appears that Wednesday into Thursday will be mostly dry.  I can't completely rule out a few patches of light precipitation on Wednesday night.  It appears the probability would be less than 20%.   If that were to form it would be freezing drizzle (which of course can cause problems on roadways).  Will have to keep an eye on radars Wednesday night to see if some precipitation develops.  Not confident on this part of the forecast.

WINTER PRECIPITATION FOR THE MIDDLE/END OF THE WEEK...

It appears that a light precipitation event will develop on Thursday night and Friday over our region.  I have pushed back the timing - earlier it appeared that Thursday afternoon into Thursday night would be the time period of concern.  Starting to look more like Thursday night and Friday morning.

Right now it appears that amounts will be light.  I don't want you to focus on amounts as much as I want you to focus on impact.  Any freezing rain or sleet can cause travel problems.  It appears that precipitation totals should be on the range of 0.10"-0.40" over our region.  The higher totals would likely be the southeast part of the area (closer to KY Lake).

If the storm is stronger/weaker than forecast then I will need to update the above.  Again, this looks to be a fairly light event in totals.  Remember that freezing rain or freezing drizzle/sleet can cause a lot of problems on roadways/sidewalks.

Stay updated on the latest information as we draw closer to the event.

Another precipitation event should arrive on Sunday.  Right now it appears that a mixture of precipitation changing to rain would be the best bet.  I will keep an eye on that system.  Looks active into next week, as well.

Some frozen precipitation is forecast for Thursday night into Friday.  Light events, but it could be enough to cause some slick road conditions.

A winter weather event is possible on Thursday night and Friday.  A mixture of freezing rain, sleet, and snow will be possible.

Precipitation amounts should be on the light side.  The main concern will be freezing rain and sleet causing slick roadways and sidewalks.  This is not forecast to be a huge precipitation maker.  However, with that said - slick roads will be possible.

Monitor updated forecasts as we move through the week.

Now is a GREAT time to buy a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio.  Better to have one before storms strike than to be without one during an event.  I recommend the Midland Model 300 NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio - that is what I use here at my house!
