Here comes the cold air! Sunday will bring temperatures cooler than Saturday. Monday into Thursday will bring bitterly cold air. The potential is there for single digit readings over some of our counties by Tuesday morning.Highs on Monday and Tuesday will likely not get above freezing.
A winter storm will likely develop by Thursday and Friday bringing a wintry mix to the region. For my personal thoughts on all of the above please visit the Facebook page. I am posting more frequently there with graphics and information.

HEADLINES: High temperatures on Saturday were several degrees warmer than I expected. I was thinking mostly upper 40s and maybe some lower 50s. We ended up in the middle 50s across many of our counties - even a few upper 50s. Not bad for January.
Say goodbye to the mild (can I call 50s mild) weather. The much advertised cold air is knocking on our door.
A cold front will arrive on Saturday night and Sunday. This front will bring colder air into our region starting on Sunday afternoon and continuing into next week.
The coldest morning will likely be Tuesday. I am forecasting 8-14 degrees over our northern and northeast counties. The Metropolis and Paducah area should see readings in the 10-14 degree range.
The cold air should stick around the rest of the week.
WINTER STORM DEVELOPING FOR THE MIDDLE/END OF THE WEEK?
A developing winter storm will spread precipitation into our region on Thursday. Right now it appears that a mixture of sleet, snow, and freezing rain will be possible beginning on Thursday. The precipitation may continue into Thursday night/Friday. Still a bit early for details.
There is disagreement on the model data as to how cold/warm Thursday and Friday will end up being. I am forecasting it to remain cold enough for a mostly frozen precipitation event in our local region. If the track of the storm changes or the intensity then we can revisit the topic.
Stay updated on the latest information as we draw closer to the event.
Colder air will return on Friday into next weekend behind the system.

Very cold air arrives in the region for the upcoming work week. Also a potential winter precipitation event for Thursday into Friday. Still a bit early for details on that event.

A winter weather event is possible on Thursday and Friday in and near our area. A mixture of freezing rain, sleet, and snow will be possible. Portions of the area may turn to plain rain on Thursday night - depending on the track of the system. This would most likely occur over our southern counties.

Now is a GREAT time
to buy a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio. Better to have one before
storms strike than to be without one during an event. I recommend the Midland Model 300 NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio - that is what I use here at my house!
